PUPILS from a Scarborough school brightened up their community during a big clean-up operation.

The children from Friarage School joined resident and representatives of Yorkshire Coast Homes to tidy Friargate and Cross Street in the Old Town.

During the day, the youngsters planted daffodils to help bring a splash of colour next Spring and also filled three bags with rubbish.

Cllr Janet Jefferson got her hands dirty to help out and said it went very well.

She said: “It was all designed to brighten up the area and the children absolutely loved it.

“They chuckled and laughed their way through planting the bulbs and really enjoyed themselves.

“One of the boys even said he couldn’t wait to come back and see how the bulbs had grown.”
