Youngsters on long road to stardom

YOUNG band Stairwell 17, right, are going places.

Although still at school, they have landed support slots with Hazel O’Connor, Bruce Foxton from the Jam and Lindifarne, says proud dad Neil Raistrick, whose daughter Charlotte is the singer.

“We have 22 bookings at the moment and have done about 20 already this year,” Neil says.

A tour of the US east coast is being planned, if the band and its supporters can raise enough money to pay for it.

Neil is appealing for sponsors. If you would like to help, email debbiehuggon@talktalk.net.

The band is made up of singer and rhythm guitarist Charlotte Raistrick, 15, lead guitarist Joe White, 15, bass guitarist Sam Barnes, 15, drummer Henry Whitehead, 14, (all from Filey School) and rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Esme Rookes, 15, of Graham School.

Stairwell 17 was the first act to play at the weekend’s Staxtonbury festival and was the only band to perform on all three days of the event.
