Cafe had setbacks

WE WRITE in response to the story of April 7 concerning low inspection ratings relating to hygiene at food businesses in Scarborough.

As regular customers of Nutmeg cafe on Victoria Road (rated 1) we have first-hand experience of the trials and tribulations of running this small business.

The proprietors, Rob and Elaine, work hard and have had to deal with numerous setbacks, including a flood from an upstairs bathroom which resulted in part of the ceiling collapsing in the kitchen.

This happened shortly after making alterations to the kitchen area to meet current standards.

More recently they have had to damp-proof-course between the toilet and kitchen.

Much of this work has been carried out at their own expense and has resulted in a loss of business due to having to close.

I hope that all Nutmeg’s customers will, like us, continue to dine on a regular basis in this friendly and welcoming cafe where the food is always imaginative and delicious.
