RE: FLOWER Festival ‘For all the Saints’ at St Mary’s Parish Church (May 20 to 23).

On behalf of the council of the Friends of St Mary’s, may I thank most sincerely everyone who supported our recent Flower Festival at St Mary’s Church.

The flower designers excelled in their interpretation of this year’s theme and we thank them and Mrs June Wilkinson for co-ordinating this event which raised £2,000 for the church fabric fund.

We have received many appreciative comments about the festival and sincerely thank the sponsors for their generous donations.

We are especially grateful to the Deputy Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough (Cllr Mrs Helen Mallory) for attending the preview.

Many volunteers were involved and in addition to these may I thank our verger, Tommy Kinsella, our stewards and those who provided and served refreshments. Sales of cards by Jean Mollon and Maud Crawford added to our takings. Musical interludes by John Haslam were much appreciated. A concert to end the festival featured St Mary’s Church Choir, Lynn Mellor (soprano), Connor Rogers (guitar), Scarborough Sixth Form College singers with readings by Dorothy Berry.

Not least we thank our vicar, Reverend Martyn Dunning, and his wife Joyce Dunning for giving us encouragement and support in our efforts for St Mary’s.

Membership of the Friends is open to all at £10 per annum and details are available by telephoning the St Mary’s Church office.
