Has anybody noticed the new signage directing motorists to Friars Way long stay car park?
The reason I ask this question is because I often drive past Friars Way and in the past few years have never seen this car park fully utilised. I often wonder why nothing has been built on this site of the former hospital.
Regretfully about three years ago councillors took the advice of consultants and recommended the car park, which was used regularly by council officers to park, as well as ordinary permit holders, to make it short stay forcing council staff to park in William Street. This had a detrimental affect on income and I raised this issue with council colleagues whilst serving as a councillor myself at the time, often noting how empty it was around mid-afternoon.
Signage to the car park had always been an issue and I can only hope visitors who were unaware of its existence will now use it.
