Letter: Convalescing for goodness sake is needed

There is no point providing more nurses and cash into the NHS if there are no beds available for patients.

We still need the likes of the former St Thomas and St Mary’s hospitals to convalesce after surgery, illness and care for the elderly until they have the ability to cope at home.

Social care services would also benefit.

Most of these old hospitals, with the exception of a few privately owned nursing homes have been closed down along with the level of state enrolled nurse training - good qualified practical nursing care.

Put the extra nurses and cash into this, to free up the beds at the major emergency hospitals, where specialist care is crucial.
