I write in admiration of the hard work of Heather French and Peter Guttridge in organising and presenting the Scarborough Book Festival.
Despite the reluctance of certain statutory bodies to make the effort to produce another literature festival, citing perhaps financial reasons and that a respite was needed, Heather and Peter (literally) bit the bullet and through their tremendous hard work, resolve and enthusiasm and produced a festival that was in keeping with those of previous years.
It is to their credit and, I feel, the shame of those who appeared not to be bothered, that once again Scarborough was firmly placed on the literary map.
The variety of speakers, the depth of their knowledge in the topics covered, the wonderful use of Scarborough venues and the support they received, not only from those of Scarborough but many from further afield, more than proved to my mind that their hard work was suitably rewarded.
Again, my warmest congratulations to Heather and Peter and I, for one, look forward to next year.
