A seagull cull will now not take place in Scarborough, despite 90 per cent of the public supporting such action.
As an alternative I wonder if it would be possible to follow the example of action taken on Puffin Island, off Anglesey in North Wales.
Rats had colonised the island after surviving a shipwreck and had decimated the local bird population by eating their eggs.
To rid the island of rats they were deliberately fed with a grain laced with a drug that made them infertile and unable to breed.
The rats have now died out and it didn’t involve a cull.
