YMCA theatre: Superb shows not to be missed

Recently, I spent a very enjoyable evening watching ‘Disney Spectacular’ at the YMCA theatre.

Many years ago I used to do the choreography from some of the YMCA shows. Now I sit back and let the younger generation take over!

I have watched with great interest James Aconley, once a YMCA boy, who has now matured into a very fine professional singer, director and producer of shows. So as director of Disney Spectacular, it is great to see how he has nurtured the young singers, and how they have responded.

The youngsters are very very good. As well as singing, these talented performers dance with wonderful enthusiasm to great choreography by Julie Nockels and Joanne Hall. The energetic performances by all the cast were enhanced by super costumes, sets and lighting.

James Aconley, as well as being director of Disney Spectacular, is a director of NAP Music Productions who are presenting three different shows over five Fridays in August at the YMCA. James is appearing with two other talented singers, Rebecca Kelly and Katie Gregson. James’ sister Polly is singing in two of the shows.

To add to the wonderful entertainment at the YMCA during the summer, the Rowlies Academy of Dance are presenting ‘Musical Mash Up’ each Saturday evening.

So Scarborough people and holiday makers, please, please support these very talented youngsters from the YMCA and the more sophisticated singers from NAP Productions.

What a wonderful summer of entertainment we have at the YMCA theatre! Don’t miss it!
