Gratitude for a special day

I wish to express a big thank-you via your columns to all the staff at Taylors Coffee/Bookshop in Bar Street, who played host recently for the Scarborough launch of my newly published autobiography, Eve of Forgiveness: A Journalist’s Journey.

In recognition of the fact that for every copy sold I am donating £1 to Cancer Research UK, the shop offered an extremely fair discount on their commission for book sales which was greatly appreciated, especially as their normal percentage is already half that of a well-known national bookshop chain.

Their policy is to encourage and promote local authors like myself, with a special section of their bookshop devoted exclusively for this purpose. This is a welcome stepping stone for budding writers.

I am happy to report that my book-signing session proved hugely successful, attracting well over 50 people and resulting in the sale of around four dozen copies.

The friendly staff pulled out all the stops to ensure the event ran smoothly and nothing was too much trouble for them. I cannot praise them enough.

They are a credit to the proprietor, Scarborough author Graham Taylor, who opened the premises only last autumn, and I would like to wish this family-run business continued success for the future. mSome of us may welcome new superstores such as the latest Tesco project, but individual shops such as this are the life-blood of a town centre and should be encouraged and patronised.

Thank you Taylors for making my special day that much more extra special!
