SUNDAY’S Greenwood Hire Derwent Valley Junior Cricket League action was wiped out by the wet weather, but there was plenty of midweek action in the Pavilion Junior KO Cup.

Cloughton A saw off their B team by 24 runs in their preliminary round clash.

The A team batted first, and were led to 98-5 from their 20 overs thanks to fine batting efforts from David Couch, 26 retired, and Joe Cooke, 25 retired.

Cooke also shone with the ball, bagging two wickets for the cost of only six runs, while Sam Loy snapped up 2-11.

Will Gibson’s 23 kept Cloughton B in the hunt, but they ended up short with 74-5.

Sewerby B won by 20 runs at home to Pickering C in another keenly-contested cup-tie.

Luke Dixon’s 25 retired helped the home side post a decent 92-5.

In reply, Liam Allenby also scored 25 before retiring, but he was offered little help by his team-mates as the visitors slipped to 72 all out.

Staxton also booked their place in the first round proper with a seven-wicket triumph at Pickering B.

Jack Speight continued his superb start to the season with four wickets for six runs as Pickering were dismissed for 79, Gareth Skelton hammering a fine 27 retired.

Jake Smith’s 26 retired steered the village side to victory by seven wickets.

In a division C match also played in midweek, Beeford eased to a 136-run home win against Staxton.

The hosts racked up a massive 151-6 from their 20 overs, Albert Brown top-scoring with 28 retired, Josh Muirhead adding 27 ret, and Rowan Rhodes chipping in with 26 ret.

Kyle Outhart was the pick of the away team’s bowling attack, taking 2-24.

Staxton were then shot out for just 15 runs by some outstanding bowling from Luke Huby, 3-1, and Edward Wright, 2-5.
