The member clubs of the Readers Scarborough Beckett League voted against the league committee’s proposal to draw a boundary line for any clubs wishing to play in any of their divisions.
Following the application of Mulgrave CC to join the league from 2015, the committee members proposed that any clubs outside the boundaries of Whitby, Bridlington, Malton and Helmsley would not be allowed to apply for entry.
Seventeen voted against the proposal, with 14 in favour, and it is expected that Mulgrave will now be elected into the Derwent Valley League at their AGM next week.
Following the resignation of both Hunmanby and Lockton recently, three clubs were promoted from Derwent Valley A, with just Hospitals dropping in the opposite direction.
Ravenscar, Ebberston 2nds and Heslerton 2nds will now take their places in Beckett C for the 2013 season.
The meeting was opened by secretary Ashley Winspear, who warned clubs about their over rate, stating that clubs needed to improve and keep to 17 overs per hour or face possible points or monetary sanctions.
League president Mark Evans thanked the league officials and encouraged member clubs to support the league handbook and appreciate the superb organisation that the Beckett League enjoys.
Kirkbymoorside’s Dan Jemison was awarded the John Lockey Memorial Trophy after taking 48 wickets in his side’s promotion charge from division A.
Rob Middlewood’s 442 runs for Bridlington 2nds netted him the Paul Cooper Memorial batting trophy, while Alex Ibbotson of Ryedale claimed the bowling equivalent for the third consecutive year after taking 26 wickets in the 2012 campaign.
The league will again host a ball collection evening on Monday April 8 at Staxton CC, where clubs are required to collect their Readers match balls for the coming season. Clubs will also be required to provide their insurance documents on the evening.
