BECKETT LEAGUE: Thornicroft takes 10 wickets as Grange hammer Staithes

Medium-pacer Nick Thornicroft took all 10 Staithes wickets as Nawton Grange won by 73 runs at Staithes.

The former Yorkshire bowler claimed all the Staithes wickets for the cost of 18 runs in his 8.4 overs as the hosts slipped to 81 all out in pursuit of Nawton's 154 all out.

Ben Mountain top-scored with 45 for the visitors, with new signing Lee Oliver, Simon Bowes and Stu Peirson taking two wickets apiece for Staithes.

Paul Major remained unbeaten on 61 but could do little to halt his teammates' demise to Thornicroft's accurate bowling.

Staxton maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 145-run win at previously unbeaten Seamer.

The visitors racked up a massive 296-7 from their 45 overs thanks to fine knocks from Adam Hargreaves (83), Nick Gibson (74) and Linden Gray (71).

Gregg Chadwick's 62 was the only highlight of the home side's reply as they were dismissed for 151, medium-pacer Jonny Aldcroft taking 4-16.

Scalby are second in the table after their 29-run win against Heslerton.

An excellent all-round batting effort saw the visitors post 209-9, James Ledden top-scoring with 51, Brad Walker adding 47 - the duo sharing a cracking 89-run second-wicket stand, while captain Adam Waugh struck 44 and Conor Carson's assertive 29, Paul Kinghorn, Dan Jeminson and Andy Slaughter bagging three wickets each for the hosts.

Sam Triffitt's 57, allied to 39 from Rob Middlewood gave Heslerton hope but they ended on 180-9, mainly thanks to top bowling from overseas ace Tynan Economou, 6-33.

Ebberston claimed their opening victory of the season, defeating visitors Mulgrave by six wickets.

The away side limped to 88 all out from 35.3 overs, young seamer Frankie Beal and spinner Jordan Welford snapping up 3-29 and 3-18 respectively.

Ben Lockey's unbeaten 40 saw Ebberston safely home, despite 3-33 from Craig Thompson..

Filey claimed a dramatic two-run success in a high-scoring match at Forge Valley.

Josh Dawson led the way for the Clarence Drive club with 91, while Nathan Robson hammered 65 and Ryan Baldry 50 as they posted 266-9.

Joe Bradshaw's stylish 94, allied to 43 from Will Tindall and 39 by Tom Brough, gave Valley a fighting chance, but Robson's 4-55 helped peg the hosts back to 264-9, the latter holding his nerve with Valley needing 11 to win from the final over.

Cayton eased to a 89-run home win against Flixton 2nds, with Aussie ace Alex Townsend starring again for the hosts.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat first, reaching 197 all out with two balls of their 45 overs remaining, veteran Steve McAleese leading the way with 55, youngsters Tom Sixsmith adding 45 and Josh Brown 31, Lee Elvidge the pick of the Flixton attack with 3-38.

Rob Lacey hit 44 in reply and rising star Will Hutchinson chipped in with 29 as Townsend and Harry Holden captured four wickets apiece to send Flixton crashing to 108 all out.

A magnificent seven-wicket haul from Eddie Rounthwaite helped Division One leaders Settrington to an 86-run win at home to Wykeham.

The hosts batted first and made 173-8, Taryn MIdgley topping the scores with 39 and Rounthwaite adding 23, spinner Mathew Vincent scooping 3-44 and Adam Eustace 2-12.

James Bryant's 29 was the only highlight of a Wykeham reply which was cut short on 87 thanks to 7-38 from Rounthwaite and 2-14 by Zweli Sodladla.

Gary Dixon's unbeaten 104 was not enough to save Cayton 2nds from a three-wicket defeat at Thornton Dale.

Fellow opener Jes Riley also struck an impressive 85 as the visitors racked up 236-3.

Sam Asquith's 56, along with 40 from Lewis White and Graham Hunt's 33, allied to an unbeaten 26 from Ian Farrow confirmed Thornton's win with five balls to spare, Mark Nettleton taking 3-83 for Cayton.

Staxton 2nds' fine start to the season continued with a six-wicket triumph against Brompton.

Medium-pacer Sean Pinder grabbed 5-18 and Nick Ringrose 3-38 as Brompton slumped to 130 all out, despite Tom Noble's 53.

Dan Bulman's rapid 50 from only 48 balls, including nine fours, wrapped up the win for Staxton.

Liam Cousins shone with bat and ball as Grindale triumphed by seven wickets at home to Sherburn.

Cousins took 4-35 as Sherburn were dismissed for 94 in 31.2 overs, Greg Cousins taking 3-21 while Jamie Thomson hit 34 for the visitors.

Sam Moore's unbeaten 70 helped Wold Newton to a five-wicket home success against Cloughton.

Gwaine Hogg, 57, also played his part in the hosts' victory chase, Charles Gray adding 27.

Jon King was unbeaten one short of his half-century for Cloughton, while Josh Hakings and Chris Woodhouse weighed in with 41 apiece, Ricky Nock adding 26 as the visitors posted 221-8, Gray, David Stockdale and Malcolm Collins taking two wickets apiece.

Ebberston 2nds moved into top spot in Division Two with a 52-run win at Great Habton.

Mike Horsley and Dougie Bentley hammered 64 apiece for the visitors, while Jon Metcalfe added 40 as Ebberston posted 243-7.

John Lumley's unbeaten 93, along with 36no from George Lumley, gave Habton a fighting chance, but three wickets from Alex Machen saw Ebberston to victory.

Unbeaten Fylingdales eased to a 75-run home win against Ganton, with Mark Estill the all-round hero for the victors.

Estill led the way with a sparkling 81 as Fylingdales posted 215 all out, John Bannster taking the plaudits with the ball for Ganton with 4-44.

James Barber's 55 gave Ganton a chance of victory, but Estill then took control with the ball, snapping up 4-30 to help dismiss Ganton for 140.

Another cracking run-chase saw Ravenscar successfully chase down 196 at Scalby 2nds.

Freddie Schmuck's unbeaten 83 helped Scalby post a decent 196-9, but skipper Jish Rewcroft led by example for the visitors with 63, offered fine support by Joe Bayes, 34, as Ravenscar won by three wickets.

Flixton 3rds are the early Division Three leaders after easing to a 107-run triumph against Kirkbymoorside.

Fine innings from Geoff Hill, 77, Matt Drury, 71, and Pete Hill, 49no, laid the foundations for Flixton's 266-4 and although Howard Mudd smashed 68 in reply, Pete Hill, 3-19, and youngster Cameron Anderson, 3-22, dismissed the Moorsiders for 159.

Seamer 2nds cruised to victory at Ryedale thanks to a stunning spell of 5-12 from six overs by youngster Corey Towell.

The hosts were skittled for 61, and new recruit Josh Lowe's 19 not out wrapped up the straightforward win.

Spin twins Matthew Kings and Brandon Horsfall took 4-25 and 3-19 respectively to steer Muston to victory against Heslerton 2nds, Phil Robson's 28 wrapping up the win for Muston.

Michael Eyre's outstanding 147 not out helped Snainton to a 272-run Division Four success at Filey 2nds.

Liam Cooper also contributed 46 and Carl Wilson added 38 for the visitors, and rising star Luke Smith's excellent 6-6 along with 4-10 from Ryan Cooper saw Filey humbled for just 17 runs.

Ian Wright was the all-round star for Cayton 3rds in their easy nine-wicket win at Hospitals Rugby Club.

The hosts could only manage 77 in the face of top bowling from Wright, 3-19, and Shakil Iqbal, 4-27, and Wright then struck an unbeaten 40 to wrap up the 20-point win.

In another one-sided affair Sherburn 2nds secured a 121-run success against Wold Newton 2nds.

Jordan Wharton top-scored for Sherburn with 71 in their 213-6, with fine work from Phil Leckonby, 41, boosting their total, Newton limping to a meagre 92-4 in reply.

Cloughton 2nds edged past Lockton by two wickets for their opening win of the season.

Simon Boyes struck 38 and Adam Shearsmith 33 as the visitors posted 131-5.

Simon Oxendale's 4-33 kept Lockton in the game but 36 from Liam Salt and 26 by Rob Barker secured victory for the home side.

Anosh George was the star with bat and ball as Valley Bar Nomads cruised to a seven-wicket home Division Five success against Scalby 3rds.

The seam bowler took 6-26 to help skittle Scalby for just 93, Babu Matthew scooping 3-17, and George then led the reply with an undefeated 38 to wrap up the win.

Thornton Dale 2nds claimed a seven-wicket triumph at Ganton 2nds.

Dan Reardon's fine form continued with a knock of 45 for the hosts, Mark Lockwood also making the same score as Ganton posted 171-8 with Paul Waring bagging 3-42.

Gary Parker, 48no, and stalwart Patrick Stephenson, 41no, then saw Dale safely to victory.

Forge Valley 3rds romped to victory at 10-man Ravenscar 2nds.

Tim Farrant, 46, Gary Gibson, 39, and Tom Varey, 31, took the Ayton side to 176-8, and the latter took 4-3 as the hosts stumbled to 45 all out.

Mark Precious' 83 guided Muston 2nds to victory against Wykeham 3rds.

Precious and George Marr, 31, saw Muston home by six wickets with five overs to spare.

Wykeham had earlied posted 175-7 with Scott Wardman's 67 and Rob Shepherdson's 42 laying the foundations, Marr having takend 4-40.
