Staxton 2nds suffered an agonising eight-run defeat against Fylingdales - a result that sent them down from division B.

Mario Spagnolo, 66, and Barry Heyes, 56, boosted the Fylingdales total with a sixth-wicket partnership of 105 taking them to 193-7 at the break for whom seamer Mark Dove claimed 4-61.

Needing victory to have any chance of avoiding relegation, Staxton made the perfect reply as Tom Nicholson struck 60 and Glen Rawson added 43 in an opening partnership of 104.

Matthew Pearson added 42 but the poor batting form of the lower order surfaced again as Martin Cairns claimed 5-30, restricting the visitors to 185-7 at the close and confirming division C cricket for Staxton 2nds next season.

Champions Scalby were in celebratory mode on 214-7, Tim Barton, 59, and Peter Beard, 46, keeping the scoreboard moving against Lockton, but after 40 overs rain caused the match to be abandoned.

Gary Gibson, 29, and John Flinton, 24, helped Forge Valley 2nds to 115 at tea against Cayton 2nds, for whom Simon Glave claimed 5-40.

But it was all to no avail as the match was rained off with Cayton 2nds on 22-1, but the 10 points gained by the home team kept them just outside the relegation position.

The Grindale v Settrington match was switched to be played at Settrington but rain ensured no play was possible.
