DERWENT Valley League chairman Derek Hall took the catch which earned a dramatic win for Forge Valley 4ths at title-chasers Wykeham 3rds.
Dan Bateson’s 6-19 sent Valley crashing to 59 all out, and the basement club seemed set for their ninth successive defeat.
But Sam Craggs had other ideas, the Valley bowler’s 5-24 pegging back Wykeham, with Hall’s catch winning the game for Valley - their first success of the season.
This result also saw Wykeham knocked off top spot, with Filey 2nds taking top spot after a 20-run win at home to Hunmanby 2nds.
Lee Plant’s superb spell of 8-38 saw Hunmanby dismissed for 75 in pursuit of Filey’s 95 all out.
Shaun Welburn’s 35 was the main driving force behind Filey’s total, Steve Norris claming 3-12 for Hunmanby.
Sewerby 4ths boosted their promotion puish with a 135-run win at home to Ravenscar 2nds.
Ryan Bartram Jnr smacked a powerful 70 as the hosts posted 192-8, Jon Morrell and Jack Grady taking three wickets apiece.
Dominic Waters then took 3-12 as Ravenscar were shot out for just 57 runs.
Scalby 3rds’ promotion hopes took another knock as they lost by 54 runs at Wold Newton 2nds.
Darrell Morley snatched 6-26 and veteran Mike Tildsley 3-29 as Wold Newton were dismissed for 118, Kirk Lister scoring 42.
Scalby then slumped to 64 all out, Paul Brignall bagging 3-10 for the home side.
Former Oriel bowlers Dave Parkinson and Jim Hunter joined forces to secure a seven-wicket home win for Muston 2nds against Thornton Dale 3rds.
Parkinson took 7-35 and Hunter 3-20 as Dale were skittled for 56, Matthew Lakin battling away for 34.
Howard Mudd’s 3-1 from five overs helped Kirkbymoorside 2nds earn a nine-wicket home win against Cayton 3rds.
