John Sowden was the architect of Filey 2nds’ downfall as he helped Flixton 3rds to a 19-point haul.

Sowden’s superb figures of 6-14 helped bowl Filey 2nds out for just 82, despite 25 from Lewis Adams.

In reply Josh Till’s unbeaten 35 and 26 from Jack Walmsley helped Flixton to 83-3 and the victory in the process as they closed the gap on division A leaders Kirkbymoorside.

Kirkby suffered their first defeat of the season at home to third-placed Nawton Grange 2nds.

The home side batted first and could only make 120-6, Martin Thompson, 38, and Graham Jeminson, 28, their chief run scorers.

Grange made it home seven wickets down as Nathan Marwood hit a crucial 48, Jamie Harper doing his best to keep Kirkby’s 100% record intact with 4-36, but it wasn’t quite enough.

Kiwi Marcus Edwards smashed 72 to help drag Hospitals/Rugby Club away from the relegation battle with six-wicket win against Lockton.

Lockton batted first and made 139-6, Liam Taylor top-scoring with 60 as Alex Shearsmith cut back the Lockton batting order with 3-34.

Edwards then got to work with the willow, his beligerant 72 easing them safely to 140-4.

Wold Newton 2nds were struggling on 116-6 when the rain called a halt to their clash at home to Sherburn 2nds.

Phil Hall’s 59 had helped them past the 100-mark, while Dan Stocks has taken 3-28 with the ball for the away side.

Sewerby 3rds’ miserable season continued as they were forced to concede their game against Forge Valley 3rds.

Only two games were completed in division B due to the downpours as Valley Bar Nomads and Wykeham 3rds both collected victories.

The game between Valley Bar Nomads and Snainton looked to be on a knife-edge at the halfway point after Bar posted 159 all out.

Ben Atkinson led their knock with 56, while he was ably supported by Steve Johnson, 35, and Anosh George, 27, while Michael Kipling, 3-43, and Leigh Watson, 3-52, did their best to restrict the home side.

Despite Michael Eyre compliling a steady 38 in reply, wily veteran Jim Hunter’s 4-38 helped peg Snainton back to 131-7 at the death, handing Bar 16 points.

Wykeham 3rds won by five wickets against Muston 2nds.

Muston 2nds ended their innings on 156-6, George Marr’s 56 and 42 from James McMillan helping them along in the face of solid bowling from Adam Eustace, 3-35.

Matthew Remmer, 45, and Toby Wrightson, 48, helped see Wykeham safely home five wickets down, despite Gary Hanson snapping up figures of 4-51.

The games between Ganton 2nds and Ravenscar 2nds and Thornton Dale 2nds and Scalby 3rds both fell foul of the wet weather, while Cayton 3rds were without a fixture.
