Defending champions Staxton cruised away to a solid start in Division A of the AndyHire Evening League when they beat Filey by 39 runs.

Adam Hargreaves led the way for Staxton with a knock of 62, as they held off Filey's Phil Dickens’ 3-36 to close on 136-6.

Andy Holtby’s 3-32 then guided Staxton to the points.

Josh Dawson’s 27 and Adam Ditchburn’s 32 not out had given Filey some hope along the way.

Scalby scraped to a 10-run win against Heslerton, despite Toby Sercombe (2-2) helping to slow them to 98-8.

Paul Hesp’s 3-15 and Ryan Labuschagne’s 4-26 then restricted Heslerton to 88-8.

Knocks in the 30s from Jon Mason and Damian Readman helped Ebberston to a win by eight wickets against Seamer, as Ian Atkinson chipped in with 3-14.

In Division B, Flixton are eyeing an immediate return to the top flight, and they look a good bet after an eight-wicket victory against Cloughton.

Michael Dennis’ 32 forced the Flixton total past the required target of 90-6.

Nick Gibson (27) and Jack Hakings (26) contributed most of the Cloughton runs.

Lee Yarrow’s 36 proved to be vital as Wykeham B inflicted a two-run defeat on Scarborough.

Tom Ward was the star of the show for Cayton B, as they grabbed a nine-wicket Division C success against Ebberston B.

Ward’s 4-9 reduced Ebberston to 52-8 and Shakil Iqbal’s unbeaten 27 saw them home.

Robin Coulson was among the wickets when Ravenscar beat Wykeham C by six wickets.

His spell of 4-24 left a attainable tally, that was swiftly passed by Ravenscar.

Three wickets each for Ben Norman and Kieran Jackson couldn’t deny Staxton B victory as they saw off Snainton by 11 runs.

Jack Pinder’s 29 took Staxton to 113, Luke Smith (45no) rallied in the reply, but Snainton fell off the pace.
