Evening League: Filey race to victory target while Staxton and Scalby hold their nerve

Filey were in a hurry as they hammered Cayton A by nine wickets in the Andy Hire Evening League division B.

Benjamin Briggs took 3-16 as Cayton were dismissed for just 62 before Ryan Baldry and Josh Dawson set about charging down their target in scintillating fashion.

Baldry, 38no, and Dawson, 26no, hammered Filey to 64-1 in just 3.3 overs.

In another one-sided encounter, Cloughton A won their derby clash at home to Scalby B by nine wickets.

Scalby ended their innings on 82-8, Paul Goodenough bagging 3-9, before Chris Woodhouse’s 52no helped them to 83-1.

Eddie Craggs was the match-winner for Ebberston B in their 21-run success against Forge Valley A.

Craggs’ 76 helped Ebberston set 146-9, Liam Glaves taking 3-28, before 3-47 from Tom Holmes helped peg Valley back to 125 all out despite 34 from Gary Gibson and 25 from Eric Hall.

Ganton beat Scarborough by 19 runs as Sam Carver shone.

Carver’s unbeaten 54 and 29 from Ian Cousins helped Ganton to 138-6, Ben Rowe taking 3-30.

Despite 52no from Josh Mainprize and 47 from Damian Foster, Scarborough could only muster 119-3 in reply.

There was late drama in division A as both Staxton and Scalby held their nerve to claim victories.

Staxton won from the penultimate ball against Seamer as they charged down to 158-5 thanks to 44 from James Armstrong, 31 from Dan Bulman and Linden Gray’s 25.

Seamer had made 154-5, Anthony Jenkinson, 69, Gregg Chadwick, 42, and Harry Holden, 26, their run scorers.

Tony Geall was the architect of Scalby’s tense win at home to Flixton.

Alex White, 44no, Jon Barton, 37 and Tom Gregory, 29no, helped Scalby to 146-3.

Richard Malthouse’s 34 looked to have set Flixton on their way, but Geall laid the foundations for Scalby’s victory, taking 4-18 as the home side won by five runs.

Wykeham’s James Bryant hit 37 to help his side charge to a six-wicket win at home to Heslerton.

Heslerton made 118 all out as Dave Pearson claimed 4-34, before Bryant helped Wykeham home.

Ebberston were in top form with the bat against Sherburn as Ben Lockey, 58, Matthew Turnbull, 56, and Jonny Mason, 40, helped them to a massive 185-6.

Sherburn made 144-8 in reply, Jordan Wharton hitting 47 as Col Palmer, 4-33, and Pete Webster, 3-33, got to work with the cherry.

Cayton B won with two balls to spare against Ravenscar in division C, Will Wood hitting 41no.

Ravenscar hit 113-6 before Cayton made it to 114-8.

Seamer B cruised to victory against Forge Valley B, Phil Metcalfe hitting 28no as they made it to 62-1 following Valley’s paltry 58-8.

Wykeham C recorded a huge 92-run win against Cloughton B, Josh Briggs, 57, and George Shannon, 45no, helping them to 163-4 before Adam Brown’s 4-17 helped restrict Cloughton to 71-6.

Phil Robson’s 34 helped Muston to a five-wicket win against Valley Bar Nomads, whose 106-3 wasn’t enough.

Chris Remmer, 4-21, did the damage with the ball for Wykeham B against Staxton B, before Scott Wardman’s 34no helped them to the win.
