Despite only seven games being completed in the Readers Scarborough Beckett Cricket League on Saturday, several issues were decided mainly Filey’s return to the premier division, Grindale’s promotion to division A for the first time in their history and Thornton Dale’s promotion from division C.

Filey’s game was called off due to rain with their hosts Nawton Grange on 25-4 in reply to Filey’s 125 all out, Paul Bowes following up his 37 then bagging 3-2 with the ball.

Grindale eased to a nine-wicket win at Staxton 2nds, Tom Jackson taking 4-26 as the visitors slipped to 68 all out, Richard Jackson (25no) and Ben Jackson (24no) completing a great day for the Jacksons and the village club.

Thornton Dale also earned enough points to secure promotion from division C after their game at Ravenscar ended in a draw due to the rain.

Elsewhere there were some fine batting displays, Chris Dove smacking an unbeaten 102 in Staxton’s rained-off game at home to Flixton 2nds, the latter were 40-6 in reply to 183 all out from Staxton when the rain came to the visitors’ rescue.

Another centurion was the prolific Dan Walker in division B, the Ryedale batsman blasting 112 as his side saw off visitors Scarborough 3rds by 83 runs in division B.

Chris Hunter bowled superbly for Scarborough, snapping up 8-64 and followed this up with 40 in support of his skipper Martin North, who was unbeaten on 54.

Alistair Limb struck 105 as Ganton earned 10 points from their rain-affected game at home to Staithes 2nds in division C, the visitors struggling on 56-5 in reply to the hosts 173 all out. Limb also took 3-17 to cap a fine all-round day.
