We witnessed one of the all-time great innings last week as Chris Gayle hit an unbeaten 175 from just 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

I watched it the day after on repeat and I was still astounded by his hitting.

He hit two onto the roof and one that went straight out of the ground.

It was ridiculous hitting - it must be a nightmare bowling to him and I wouldn’t fancy it personally.

Even when they were taking the pace off the ball, he just kept hitting it further and further, it was unbelievable.

I am a big fan of the IPL, I know it has its critics, but I think it’s great entertainment to have the best players in the world on show in one tournament.

I just hope it doesn’t eventually overtake Test Match cricket - that should always be the priority.

Scarborough Cricket Club enjoyed a good day on Saturday as both the 1st and 2nd teams won.

It was great for us to get wins under our belts as we look to progress as a club both on and off the pitch.

We desperately need to move the 2nd team up at least one level so there isn’t too big a gap when players move up and down between the 1sts and 2nds.

The first team game was slow to get going as we were off due to rain a few times.

We had them 5-2 after a couple of overs after Jack Holt took a couple of early wickets, we had to come off for rain though and after we came back on they managed to get up to 177.

Chris Grey has proving to be a very good signing so far.

He joined us from Hull and has made an impact with both bat and ball.

He got both runs and wickets for us on Saturday and we’ll be looking to him to continue that form now.

We’re hopefully going to have Samrat Sharma back for this weekend - that will be another boost for us as he is a quality player.

The 2nds also picked up a good win to start their season.

Callum Ferrie is looking a very good signing from Cloughton and he will definitely strengthen their chances.

They do need a wicket-keeper quite badly, so if anyone out there fancies it, get in touch.

We also desperately need a scorer for our 1st team matches.

Anyone who might be interested should contact the club.
