Flamborough all-rounder Marcus Garcia shone for Flamborough in their Welford Cup win against Wold Newton 2nds in the final at Ebberston CC.
Wold Newton batted first on the excellent Ebberston ground and got off to a good start through James Ward, who hit a fine 48, and he was well supported by veteran Will Hall, who hit a fine 22.
The pick of the Flamborough bowlers were Garcia with 3-38 and a tight five overs from Harry Burton who took 1-9. At the end of their allotted 20 overs Wold Newton finished with a “Nelson” score of 111-6.
This total proved to be unlucky for Wold Newton 2nds as Flamborough won with five overs to spare and eight wickets in hand with opener Andy Dixon smacking a fine 45. When he was out Garcia’s unbeaten 30 and an undefeated 19 from Graham Harvey completed the task. The only bowler of note for Wold Newton was Paul Hill with 1-24 from his five overs,
The neutral umpires for this game - Les Johnson and Mike Brodie, were thanked by both captains and Bob Cowton, a Vice President of the Derwent Valley Cricket League, presented the Welford Cup to Flamborough and the runners up shield to Wold Newton 2nds, with trophies for all the players in the game.
