Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie has once again paid tribute to the facilities and support his side enjoyed during their crucial LV County Championship division one clash with Middlesex at North Marine Road this week.
Gillespie’s men produced a stunning final session to seal a 220-run win against a strong Middlesex side to go five points clear at the top of the table.
Speaking to The Scarborough News after their win, Gillespie said: “We really enjoy playing here.
“It’s a good atmosphere, a great little town and the pitch always plays well.
“The pitch was very good, we left a bit of grass on it and it helped promote positive cricket, we saw on day four that the ball was carrying through and offering a bit of turn too.
“The game was won in the last session of day four and that is what you want.
“It was a perfect championship wicket and Doddsy (groundsman John Dodds) should take a lot of credit for that.”
Cricket fans in Scarborough don’t have too long to wait to see Yorkshire back in action again as they take on Essex and Derbyshire in the Royal London Cup on Monday August 11 and Wednesday August 13 before another Championship clash with Sussex, starting on Friday August 18.
Gillespie is already looking forward to coming back, this time for a longer period.
He added: “We’re looking forward to it, we’re here for an extended stay with a couple of one day games too, so we’re really excited about coming back to Scarborough soon.”
