Alex Glass shone with bat and ball last night as Forge Valley claimed victory in their Cayley Cup quarter-final clash with high-flying Staxton last night.

Valley who are struggling near the foot of the Readers Scarborough Beckett Cricket League Premier Division, pulled off a shock 24-run win against second-placed Staxton at Wilson's Lane.

Glass struck an unbeaten 37 as the hosts posted 128-3 from their 18 overs, teenager Tom Varey also scoring 37 not out and Joe Bradshaw smashing 35 for Valley.

All-round ace Glass then broke Staxton hearts as he bagged 3-28, left-arm seamer Carl Jackson scooping a superb 4-8 as the visitors crashed to 104 all out in 17.2 overs despite Jodie Robson weighing in with 24.

Cayton 3rds booked their place in the Severfield (Design & Bulild) Ltd Division Four final last night thanks to a superb 47 from veteran Gary Dixon in their semi-final at Lockton.

The visitors batted first and made 115-5 from 15 overs, mainly thanks to a quality knock from Dixon, Dan Vasey and Rob Green taking two wickets apiece to keep Lockton in the game.

Sam Beal's 36, and 21 from all-rounder Vasey kept the home side in contention, but 3-19 from Matthew Micklethwaite and 2-13 from stalwart slow bowler Trev Davies pegged the hosts back to 108-7.

The other semi-final between Cloughton 2nds and Filey 2nds was rained off last night, and the teams will battle it out again on Thursday June 23, the winners facing Cayton 3rds in the final at Staxton Cricket Club on Wednesday July 20, 6pm start.
