FILEY B youngster Aaron Howard made an explosive start to the AndyHire Evening League season with a superb knock of 109 - and three wickets - in his side’s 22-run win against Oriel B.
Howard’s century was the mainstay of Filey’s 157-8 in the division D encounter.
Kev Pettitt’s 26 gave Oriel a chance, but spinner Howard’s 3-20 saw the Scarborough team pegged back to 135-8.
A superb unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 127 between Staxton B’s Ryan Hargreaves and Dave Aldcroft paved the way for a 60-run win for their side in their division B clash at Hospitals.
The visitors batted first, but were struggling on 41-5 when Aldcroft and Hargreaves joined forces, but the latter’s superb unbeaten 88 along with 36no from the experienced Aldcroft helped Staxton to a fine total against a depleted Hospitals side.
Gary Wardell’s unbeaten 54 was the only highlight of Hospitals’ reply as they limped to 108-5.
There was a thrilling climax to Flixton A’s division A game with Filey A, with the former winning from the penultimate ball of the match.
Phil Dickens’ 37 helped Filey to post 138-9.
Will Hunter took 3-24 for Filey as Flixton struggled in reply, despite a decent start courtesy of Neil Elviodge’s 28.
Flixton started the last over needing 18 overs to win, and thanks to the big-hitting style of skipper Andy Wardell, 29no, they secured the win with a ball to spare.
