Cayton’s superb start to the season continued with a thrilling three-wicket win at home to Ebberston in the Readers Scarborough Beckett League premier division.

Ady Turnbull top-scored for the visitors with 29, but a stunning display of pace bowling from Jake McAleese saw him take 7-28 in 12 overs, including three maidens, as Ebberston were dismissed for 98. Jake was ably backed up by Paul Woodhead, 3-27 from 12.1 overs.

Alex Machin, 19, and Tom Bumby, 18, also chipped in for the visitors.

The home team also struggled with the bat as all-rounder Colin Palmer claimed 5-21 and Damian Readman 2-3 but fine knocks from Jake’s dad, Steve McAleese, 30 and Paul Miller, with an unbeaten 35, proved decisive.
