Kirkby hold on to maintain title hopes

Derwent Valley League division A leaders Kirkbymoorside were given a stiff examination by Sherburn 2nds, but they held out for a four-wicket win.

Jamie Thompson hit 36 and there were knocks in the 20s from Matthew Lickes and Joel Wharton as Sherburn moved to 121. Howard Mudd with 5-26 and Adam Magson with 3-34 were the main bowling protagonists for Kirkby.

Jack Sleight gave the Moorsiders a few shaky moments with his 4-22, but Magson’s 40 and Andy Bayes’ 32 helped Kirkby home with little more than an over remaining.

Nawton Grange 2nds managed a nine-wicket win against a heavily boosted Sewerby 3rds.

Max Truelove, joined four other players on loan at the club from Muston, and he made an unbeaten 36 in Sewerby’s 113-6.

Nathan Marwood’s 61 not out and 42 from Neil Ward forced Grange over the winning line.

Wold Newton 2nds saw off Lockton by 27 runs in their meeting.

Newton made a steady 145-7, as Matthew Southwell (41), Tim Lazenby (25), Simon Addison (32no) and Adam Lee (25) scored the runs, while Keith Eddon (3-20) took the wickets.

Simon Boyes’ 48 pushed Lockton close, but three wickets each for Dave Stockdale and Chris Hodgson made sure they dropped off the pace.

The games between Forge Valley 3rds and Filey 2nds and Hospitals/Rugby Club and Flixton 3rds were rained off.

In division B, Ganton 2nds came out on top in a thriller by just one run against Scalby 3rds.

Ganton were dismissed for 156, as Alistair Limb and Daniel Reardon both reached the 30s. Aidan Thomas’ 3-37, Toby Pearce’s 3-32 and Perrie Bunton’s 4-19 causing all the problems.

Andy Bamfield and Thomas both struck 25 in the reply, and three wickets each from on-loan Michael Kipling and Freddie Lockwood left Scalby needing four to win off the last ball.

Two runs were scampered, allowing Ganton to win by the finest of margins.

The games between Ravenscar 2nds and Wykeham 3rds, Cayton 3rds and Thornton Dale 3rds and Valley Bar Nomads and Muston 2nds were all rained off.
