Matty Kay: Festival time at Scarborough

The matches have been coming thick and fast for us down at North Marine Road over the past week or so and there is more to come next week with the 127th Scarborough Cricket Festival.

The under-14s cricket festival has been going on all week at our ground as well as at Scarborough College, Flixton CC and Staxton CC.

I would encourage all cricket fans to come and have a look at the action today at North Marine Road for the semi-finals and tomorrow for the final, action starts at 11am both days and admission is free.

The next generation of talent from Yorkshire, London, Durham, Cheshire, Lancashire and Northumbria have been on show, so you could well see future county players in these games.

Next week sees the Festival match between Yorkshire and Durham, which runs from Wednesday to Saturday.

I would expect there to be a good travelling support as usual from our North-east neigbours and there is plenty riding on the division one game which could easily be classified as a title decider.

It should also be exciting to see the new overseas player that Yorkshire have signed up, young Kiwi batsman Kane Williamson, who also showed he is a handy part-time spinner during England’s tour over the winter.

Yorkshire may well be able to call upon Jonny Bairstow again for the Durham game, good news for Tykes fans but maybe not so much for the young batsman.

I think England thought that he could go back to the county game and get some runs for Yorkshire to boost his confidence in time for the tour Down Under this winter, lets hope he does so at Scarborough.
