Scarborough CC skipper Andrew Simpson is hoping to have a number of new faces in place when his side play host to Doncaster in the Yorkshire League opener on Saturday at North Marine Road.

Having already captured heavy-scoring Hull batsman Pete Shally in pre-season, Simpson could well have an overseas signing, as well as a couple more players in

Scarborough warmed up for the weekend with a double header last Saturday and Sunday against Fenner and Stamford Bridge.

Despite losing both fixtures, Simpson was still buoyed by a cultured knock of 68 from Tom Precious and an unbeaten 58 from Josh Mainprize.

He said: “We have some good youngsters coming through at the club, unfortunately Tom is ruled out until May, but Jack Holt is back from Australia and Yorkshire under-15 captain James Pick will be with us this season.

“Pete has come in and we are hoping to have a few more in by the weekend, including an overseas.

“We don’t want to say too much though until we see them on Saturday.

“On paper we should be more than a match for Doncaster, but we’ll have to see how it goes.

“We stole fourth place from them at the end of last season, so this will be a good indication of how we look this time out.

“Fourth was a good finish for us last year, any improvment on that this time out would be great.

“I think we have a side capable of doing just that.”
