Scarborough Cricket Club slipped to a crushing Cockspur National Knockout Cup defeat at the hands of York yesterday.
The North Marine Road side lost out by nine wickets in a clash played at York’s Clifton Park.
Scarborough were forced to bring a number of younger players in against a full-strength York side, though each impressed in the field.
In fact, young wicketkeeper Jonathan Read was the joint top-scorer with the bat in a below average 102 with a knock of 18.
Ashley Lyth also scored 18, while opener Darren Harland struck 16.
A disappointed Harland said: “It wasn’t the fact that we batted poorly, it was down to some brilliant bowling from York.
“They put the spinners on and we just couldn’t get them away.”
In the reply, only Matty Kay bagged a wicket as York cruised to a nine-wicket victory.
