Scarborough’s tough season to date continued as they were resoundly beaten by Yorkshire Academy at North Marine Road.

Academy won the toss and elected to take first knock and quickly took a liking to the batting conditions, collating 260-5 from their 55 overs.

Recently crowned Young Cricketer of the Year, Will Rhodes, was in fine form as he hit eight fours on his way to 85.

He was ably assisted by Jordan Thompson’s unbeaten 54, while his fellow opener Elliot Callis made 32, hitting two fours and a six in the process.

Matthew Watson claimed 2-86 while Sam Carver and Theo Smith also grabbed a wicket each.

Scarborough’s reply couldn’t have started any poorer as skipper and leading run scorer Andrew Simpson was dismissed off the first ball of the innings by Matthew Waite.

Carl Joyce, 47, and Darren Harland, 38, steadied the ship, but both fell short of their half centuries.

After their dismissals, Chris Grey made his way to a steady unbeaten 56 off 81 balls, but as the home side looked set to grab a losing draw, the last four batsmen all fell without scoring as Karl Carver wrapped up a five-for, while Jared Warned took three wickets.
