A cricket match between Scarborough and Bridlington’s under-13s almost had to be called-off last night after a seagull bizarrely flew onto the pitch and took a bail.
After batting first, Scarborough were just taking to the field to defend their total when the incident took place.
Umpire Barry Rudd proceeded to try and chase the seagull around the ground in an attempt to try and wrestle back the bail but it flew off.
Luckily, a back-up set of bails were called for and the game was able to finish, with Bridlington coming out on top.
Scarborough coach John Green was stunned by what he had seen. He said: “I’ve never seen anything like it.
“We were just going out to field when the seagull flew down and took one of the bails which was on the floor behind the stumps.
“Barry chased it for a bit but it flew around the ground then disappeared.
“Luckily we had a spare set and were able to finish the game.
“Our lads must have been traumatised by what they’d seen as we lost the game in the end.”
