Grindale defended a meagre 104 to beat Scalby and win the Hospital Bowl final at Cayton tonight.
Scalby were asked to field first and started brightly, Ian Cousins and son Liam departing for two and three respectively to Paul Hesp’s off-spin.
Grindale’s innings never really got going and despite skipper Josh Dawson’s 43, three wickets apiece for Hesp and Tom Gregory restricted them to 104.
It was to prove enough for Grindale though as Scalby’s batsmen struggled to shackle the Cousins Father & Son duo and seamer Ben Jackson, who proved too much with the cherry.
Only Adam Waugh, 26, and Alex White, 19, troubled the scorers as Jackson, 4-21, Liam Cousins, 2-19 from five overs, and Ian Cousins, 1-14 from five overs, ensured Scalby were all out for just 80.
Dawson added to his efforts with the bat by taking 3-20 to round-off a match-winning performance from the skipper.
