SCALBY skipper Paul Marton led his side to a hard-fought victory in the Cayley Cup Division A final on Sunday.
Scalby batted first on a flat track and made a steady, if not spectacular start.
Marton and Lee Kerr, 18, helped Scalby along before the latter was run-out. Dan Barber, 22, carried on the steady flow of runs before Marton accelerated, hitting a superb six off the bowling of Tom Pateman onto the balcony of the pavilion.
Marton hit a late flurry of runs to take Scalby’s score to a reasonable 144.
Brompton’s reply started poorly as Ross Triffitt departed. Neil Fletcher hit a handful of boundaries before he was out caught and bowled to spinner Paul Hesp.
Steven Hugill showed a safe pair of hands taking two catches to give Jon Crowson a couple of wickets before Adam Waugh took advantage of the turning wicket to seal three wickets.
Tom Pateman and Chris Malthouse dragged Brompton back into the match and looked like taking Brompton home, but solid bowling from Tom Gregory and Grant Ellwell sealed the win for Scalby.
