Record amounts were raised for Scarborough Mencap at the fourth annual memorial match for Gary Jones.
Gary’s dad Baz revealed they had raised £1,114 for charity and was quick to thank all those involved.
He said: “We had another great turnout this year and we raised the biggest amount for Scarborough Mencap since we started the match.
“To see so many people there is great and shows just how popular Gary was.
“I’d particularly like to thank Plaxtons and Flixton Cricket Club, but also everyone who made the effort to support the event.”
Chris Allens team batted first and got off to a good start with Gary Elwood making 30 runs before having to retire.
Wickets then fell at a steady rate with Shaun McEwan getting two wickets before Daz Ward came in and steadied the ship with a good looking 20 runs and then skipper Allen (30) topped the score up to 165 with Jimmy Greenhough getting two wickets in the last over.
After a very poor start for Walmsley’s Plaxton’s side, losing both openers Paul Nock and Paul Watson without troubling the scorers, they recovered with Chris Haldenby (30) Greenhough (30) putting them back on track.
Dave Roberts took two wickets to pegg Walmsley’s men back, but with Stu Pickard adding 33, they were now within touching distance.
Andy Dunn and Mick Walmsley then added some quick singles and twos to keep things ticking before getting the winning runs in the last over.
