Heslerton edged past Ebberston to win the 2014 Staxton Six-a-Side tournament as a big crowd flocked to watch the action in glorious sunshine.

Twelve clubs entered the popular tournament with Heslerton, Ebberston, Cayton and Scalby all making it out of the group stages and into the last four.

Eventual victors Heslerton beat Scalby in the first semi-final before Cayton were beaten by Ebberston in the second.

Staxton stalwart and presidentEdwin Cooper dished out the prizes after Heslerton had sealed victory in the final and secretary James Armstrong was quick to thank the sponsors and prize donors.

Armstrong said: “I have to say a big thank-you to all our sponsors, especially T P Willow for their generous donation of some excellent prizes.

“Everything went brilliantly on the day, well done to all the winners of team and individual awards.

“It was also nice to have the bench in memory of Alan Heelbeck in place at the ground a year on from his passing. A fitting tribute to Alan.”
