Snainton can still claim promotion with a 20-point haul in their final game of the season next weekend, after defeating Derwent Valley League division C rivals Scalby 3rds at their Burniston Road ground.

Snainton’s former first-teamers Leigh Watson (5-17) and James Wilson (4-35) proved far too good for the home batsmen as Scalby sank to 59 all out.

Since their first team folded in division A of the Beckett League, Snainton have made a powerful surge up the table, and with the batting prowess of Michael Eyre (31no) it was no surprise that they wrapped up their 20-point win to leave themselves 18 points behind second-placed Cayton 3rds, who completed their season with a nervy four-wicket win at home to Thornton Dale 2nds,

The visitors were skittled for 39, but Cayton made hard work of passing this total, John Ellis’ spin bowling accounting for four wickets as they edged home with 43-6.

Snainton can now secure promotion with a 19 or 20-point haul in a win in their final game of the season at Muston 2nds.

Only two other games were completed due to the wet weather, Lockton confirmed their promotion from division B with a five-wicket win at Nawton Grange 2nds, joining Flamborough in the top flight of the league next season, though the title battle will go down to the final weekend of the season, only two points separating the duo.

Valley Bar Nomads defeated hosts Forge Valley 4ths by seven wickets in the only other game to be completed.
