SPIN twins Jordan Welford and Matty Kay steered Scarborough 2nds to a 103-run home win against New Earswick in the York League third division on Saturday.

Sixteen-year-old Sam Hills struck a superb 89 to help the North Marine Road club to a total of 203-7, with 18-year-old wicket-keeper/batsman Mike Hirst weighing in with a classy 57 to take the hosts past the 200-run mark.

The visitors were then wrecked by 13-year-old spinner Welford, who took five wickets for just 16 runs in 7.4 overs, and left-arm spinner Kay, who bagged three wickets for just seven runs in his eight overs.

This win lifts Scarborough into sixth place in the third division table, and keeps Nicky Sumpton’s young team on the fringe of the promotion battle.
