A trio of local sporting clubs are teaming up to offer young people of the town a fantastic opportunity to improve both knowledge and skills.
Scarborough Athletic, Scarborough Cricket Club and East Coast Futsal are linking up with VLUK to host a two-year full-time sports scholarship.
The course for 16-18 years-olds is set to start in September of this year and is classed as full-time education, earning students UCAS points for university.
Steve Brennan, who runs East Coast Futsal and is manager of Scarborough Athletic Reserves, is organising the course.
Brennan said: “The course is open to everyone, though obviously they have to have a skill-set in football and cricket.
“It includes football, futsal and cricket coaching, as well as time working towards a BTEC in sports extended diploma at level three, which is worth three A-Levels.
“Scarborough Cricket Club will be the first to run it in their league, though we are expecting other clubs to catch on.
“It is a very unique opportunity, as there will be the chance to play at other scholarship clubs and grounds, such as the Oval and Chelmsford in Essex.”
An open evening for the course will be hold at Scarborough Cricket Club tonight, getting underway at 7pm.
