Scarborough suffered defeat on the road at Cleethorpes as their difficult season continued.

The home side won the toss and elected to bowl first, Scarborough opener Peter Shally promptly being run-out for just five.

Skipper Andrew Simpson steadied the ship with 31 before he was caught by Alex Willerton off the bowling of James Keast.

Chris Grey offered some resistance with an unbeaten 38, hitting four fours en route.

Only young wicketkeeper-batsman Jonathan Read could offer any support with 22, but the Cleethorpes attack ensured the Scarborough innings ended with them 141 all out from 46 overs.

Despite Simpson trapping Cleethorpes opener Bill Kirby lbw for seven, Harry Warwick’s 63 with Prithvi Shaw, 42 not out, and Jack Wilson, 29 not out, helped see them safely to 145-2 from 31.3 overs.

Scarborough remain second-bottom.
