The Boro under-13s finished third as they won four and drew three times across the two days in Holland, ending with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Irish side Bala Town FC in a play-off match.

The Athletic under-12s also performed strongly, finishing in fifth place despite playing up an age group.

The highlight for Athletic’s youngsters was beating two Dutch sides with Ajax players in to finish as group winners after day one.

Both teams went into the tournament having won their respective leagues and District Cups this season, giving high hopes of success on foreign soil, and they did not disappoint on the four-day trip.

Scarborough Athletic head of youth development Nigel Carson was proud of all the players, parents and coaches representing the club on the trip.

He said: “It’s been a great few days with some fantastic football played by both sides.

“The under-13s came really close to making the final, but it was a superb effort across the two days to concede just twice throughout and finish in style by winning the play-off 6-0.

“The under-12s also impressed playing a year up against some teams and still managed to finish fifth.

“There were some great performances, but the wins over the two strong Dutch sides on the opening day stand out. Despite only having a squad of 13, they played 11-a-side on full size pitches for two days.”

“They have all represented both the club and town brilliantly and the trip is an excellent way to end the season.”
