Scarborough Athletic boss has revealed the 20 names he expects to carry his side to success in the Evo-Stik division one south this season.

Boro have enjoyed a fruitful pre-season, including victories against local rivals Whitby Town and FC United of Manchester, and Funk is keen to see that run go on.

The Romanian was also quick to warn fans not to pay too much attention to pre-season glories.

Funk said: “We’re heading into the thick of things now and hopefully we can carry on playing with the quality we did during pre-season.

“The mood is good in the squad and confidence is high, but we don’t want fans to read into pre-season too much.

“We were obviously trying out certain players and things, as the opposition would have done too.

“But it is exciting heading into what I see as an opening day for this newly-formed club.

“It is the start of a new chapter in this young club’s history, and I can assure everyone that we are fit and raring to go now.

“I won’t be naming the squad for tomorrow afternoon, but we’ve got a list of 20 players that we’ll be going with this season and it’s great to have so many strong options all over the park.”

SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC SQUAD 2013/14:

Jason White, Jack Bentley, Tony Hackworth, Ryan Blott, Steve Ridley, Matty Plummer, Andy Milne, Sam Denton, Bryan Hughes, Lewis Clarkson, Ben Middleton, James Bennett, Tyler Collishaw, Josh Greening, Nathan Cook, Gary Bradshaw, Chris Bolder, Pete Davidson, Paul Foot, Tom Clarke

Despite having such a strong squad at his disposal, Funk says he won’t be adopting a rotation policy and he won’t be losing any sleep over selection headaches.

He added: “There will be no headaches for me and there won’t be a need to rotate the squad too much. It’s simple, if you’re performing for Scarborough Athletic then that is good enough for me.

“The team picks itself really and over time players who are working hard and performing well will be in the team.”
