Scarborough Athletic polish off their pre-season on Saturday when they take the trip to Goole for a 12pm kick off.
Boro may now be just a week away from the beginning of the new Evo-Stik North campaign, but this weekend’s starting side will be no indication of how Athletic will line up at New Mills.
Bosses Paul Foot and Bryan Hughes welcome Pete Davidson and Matty Plummer back into the squad.
Leigh Franks is still struggling with a sore knee, while new boy Matty Bloor will begin training on Tuesday.
Hughes said: “This game is the last piece of the jigsaw, it is an exciting time for us all.
“It may seem like pre-season has been dragging on, but it has been very beneficial for us.
“People think that the last game of pre-season will be an indication of how we’ll line up in the first game, but that won’t be the case.
“It is still a case of fine tuning things and making sure everything is right for that game at New Mills.
“There are so many players that warrant a place in our side, but we have to keep everyone happy by telling them they are all a big part of the squad.
“It is up to Paul and myself to man-manage the lads because it is important that they all feel they have a role to play at Scarborough Athletic.”
Goole have recorded a number of solid wins in pre-season, a victory against Chesterfield standing out in these results.
Despite that, Hughes is hoping that Boro can finish their preparatory work with a victory at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds.
He added: “We go into every game trying to win it and this one will be no different .
“It is all building up to that game at New Mills, where we’ll be looking for a result on the opening day.”
