Division one outfit Ayton have enjoyed a great campaign so far, having won seven games so far they are currently sitting second in the Saturday League’s top division on 22 points.

And boss Roberts is delighted with his maiden season to date.

Roberts said: “It’s been a really good first half of the season and the lads played very well, we fancy our chances.”

Ayton have worked hard to get where they are now with manager Roberts, who is in his first season of management for the side.

The former Pickering striker Roberts added: “The players believe that we can go on and win it now.

“There’s pressure on some other teams in the league but we have come from nowhere and we don’t have pressure on us.”

Roberts was quick to praise his group of players and he believes they can progress and keep challenging.

Before this season Ayton’s highest finish in the league was seventh.

Roberts added: “My aim for this season was to break into the top four and then next season we could attract some new players and then progress further up the table.”

The new manager was also quick to thank his assistant manager Daz Hastie.

Roberts added: “Daz has helped me in my first season as it is hard work running a team as well as working during the week.

“Phil Rhodes also helps me out every week. All the lads are enjoying their football and looking forward to the second half of the season.”
