Scalby Junior Badminton Club

With the massive success of the Olympics, and all sport played within the Olympic Sports Family, Scalby Junior Badminton Club are hoping for a successful year this year.

Scalby Junior badminton starts Friday September 7 between 7.00pm and 8.30pm at Scalby School Sport Hall. It will run within the school term times continuing through to Easter.

This has always been a popular sport to play and we hope to keep it’s popularity going with the on going teaching of our younger players.

Scalby junior Club is open to all children aged between nine and 18 and of all levels, from total beginner through to competent players.

John Colley, the Club’s level two coach, is supported by numerous grade one coaches, all certified by the Badminton England.

The cost is £2.50 per night.

Young players and their parents are very welcome just to turn up and try, equipment can be provided. There is running/jogging involved so appropriate clothes and shoes are advised.

Things you may not realise about badminton: It is the fastest racket sport played, with the shuttle traveling up to 300 kmph (although we will hopefully not see the shuttle travel quite as fast as that at Junior club!) Badminton is the second most popular sport in the world, after football. During one match a player may cover up to two km.

Badminton can be dated back 3000 years, famous people who have played the game include Paul Newman, Diego Maradonna and Sir Nick Faldo.
