Scarborough Athletic striker Ryan Blott was full of confidence going into today’s game at Radcliffe.

Blott said: “We’ve lost a few in a row but the lads are confident we can go to Radcliffe and get a result. There is no reason we can’t. We’ve had our ups and downs this season but we need to improve our away form and this is the best place to start.”

Rudy Funk left out of the blue and Blott said: “The players were a bit down but that’s football, managers come and go but we’ve got to improve our results and the two managers know how to do that.”

Blott was full of praise for the joint-managers and said: “Yozzer (Bryan Hughes) has years of experience at the top level and knows what it takes to win games. He and Paul Foot know what we should be doing and that’s important. Paul’s got plenty of experience at this level so when you add them together it’s a pretty good mix.”

The players are said to be happy under their new joint-managers and Blott said: “They’ve been given a bit more time now and that’s great, they wouldn’t be able to do much in a few weeks but the extension allows them to put their stamp on the club.”

Athletic haven’t won in their last five games and they have suffered heavy defeats against the top teams in the league, something Blott feels needs to be addressed, he said: “We need to do better against the bigger teams, we’ve had a few big defeats against them and once we sort that out we can be contenders again.”

When asked to sum up the season so far, Blott said: “We’ve been inconsistent to say the least and we are definitely underachieving, we’ll go into the game against Radcliffe full of confidence and we’ll try and get our season back on track.”
