Scarborough Athletic have made an approach for the top scorer of landlords Bridlington Town.
Boro have put in the required seven-day notice for Joel Sutton, who has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season.
The notice expired today and Boro boss Rudy Funk is keen to have a chat in a bid to conclude a deal.
Funk said: “When the seven days run out we will have a chat and then we’ll see what decision Joel makes.
“We are looking around at a number of players at the moment, but as I have said before it is important we bring the right ones in.
“Any deal we make has to be a partnership between the player and the club.”
If things are wrapped up in time Sutton could be involved on Saturday when Boro make the trip to Market Drayton in the Evo-Stik South.
Defender Andy Milne is the only player missing, having picked up a red card in the defeat at Telford earlier this month.
Funk added: “They are a side that have changed their manager recently and their results have picked up a lot.
“It will be a tough test, but if we get it right on the day then I think we’ll be okay.”
