Coach John Reed has backed Scarborough Athletic’s striking sensation Lewis Clarkson to maintain his goalscoring form in the Evo-Stik South.

Former Hull City youngster Clarkson has bagged nine goals despite starting just four matches.

He has also struck up a dangerous three-pronged partnership with Gary Bradshaw and Ryan Blott that has yielded seven goals in the last two games.

Reed said: “Lewis is just a diamond.

“We have seen him come on month after month, his confidence is growing and he is now bang in form.

“Lewis is just a natural goalscorer, the beauty of him is the fact that he makes it all look so easy.

“We have worked hard with Lewis in training and that now seems to have come off.

“He has been patient and now the goals are flowing, which is great for him and us.”

Reed feels that the partnership up between Bradshaw, Blott and Clarkson will have defences quaking in their boots this season.

I was talking to our defender Andy Milne about it on the way home the other day and he was saying that he’d hate to play against those three lads in a game.

“I can see Gary touching 30 goals this season, Lewis is capable of reaching 20 or more and now Ryan has that monkey off his back then anything is possible from him.

“The lovely thing is they are all very different players, they all bring their own qualities to the table.

“Because of that all three of them pose a very challenging threat to every defence they will come up against.”
