The season began for Scarborough Ladies FC’s junior teams last weekend in the City of York Girls League.
It was a mixed bag of results across the age groups, as some teams got used to playing the different format of nine-a-side football.
The under-15s started at home at Sherburn Playing Fields against Fulford, and set up with a 3-4-1 formation.
They raced into a two goal lead; the first despatched by Cara Orrah from Emily Dowson’s cross, and the second a cross from skipper Chloe Marshall which slipped in at the near post.
The visitors pulled one back before the break, but Dowson slotted in a third for the home team early in the second half, and almost struck a second soon after.
The visitors rallied and pulled a goal back when a corner wasn’t cleared, and a penalty late on gave the visitors a deserved point.
Also playing nine-a-side for the first time were the under-14s.
They travelled to Poppleton, and although Molly Sinclair scored twice they lost the game 4-2.
The under-13s remain at seven-a-side this season, and they entertained Fulford at Sherburn.
They secured an opening day win with goals from Aimie Swift, Cherie Playforth and new signing Jas Parkes.
The under-10s also had a successful start to the season winning 4-1 at their Overdale School home pitch against Copmanthorpe.
Emma Willis scored twice, with Daisy Willis and Ella Davis scoring one each.
The club’s open age side didn’t play last weekend, but the previous week they opened their North Riding Womens League campaign with a 4-4 draw against East Cleveland Ladies.
Chloe Bennett scored twice, with Natalie Wilford and Alice Turner grabbing one each.
This weekend the under-16s are in action for the first time this season, at home against Stamford Bridge.
The under-14s also face Stamford Bridge at home, while the under-15s travel to Kirkbymoorside.
The under-13s head to Scotton Scorchers, and the under-10s fixture is still to be confirmed.
On Sunday the open-age side face Middlesbrough Lionesses at Olivers Mount, kick-off 2pm.
