Scarborough Athletic are poised to capture one of Grimsby Town’s top prospects on a loan deal.
Rudy Funk is in talks with the Blue Square Premier-based Mariners and a deal to bring a young striker to Queensgate could be concluded later on Friday.
This will mean that the new signing could play in Boro’s home game against Romulus on Saturday afternoon.
Funk is also in discussions with two other unnamed players, who could also arrive at the club next week.
The Boro chief said: “We have two lots of the seven day notices in at the moment and after the weekend we will hope to complete those deals.
“I am also hoping to secure a deal with Grimsby Town for a very highly thought of young striker, who will provide us with a bit more cover.
“At the moment we are in a very good position towards the top of the table and it is important that we make it count.
“We have to bring in some quality bodies because the games are coming thick and fast.
“Some of the players need a bit of breathing space because many of them have played 30-odd games so far this season and they are not even full-time, they have their daily jobs to do as well as turning out for us.
“It is no different for every other team in the league, but the demands are very high.”
These demands will get a little tougher over the next week or so as Paul Foot misses the home game against Romulus and then top-scorer Gary Bradshaw is also awaiting his suspension for his dismissal at Leek Town.
Funk added: “Paul is missing on Saturday and then we are without Gary soon after that, so we clearly need that bit of cover.
“When making these signings though you have to look at the desire of the player and whether they will fit into what we have here at the moment.
“If you look at the lads both on and off the pitch at the moment you can tell that they are enjoying it.
“Sometimes you notice that something isn’t right with a player, but we are fortunate to have a happy camp here.”
