Scarborough Athletic under-18s claimed a superb 2-1 win at home to Bridlington Town in the Hull Boys Sunday League.
The previous week’s away defeat at DCSI Rhinos meant Boro could afford no further reverses if they were to scoop the league runners-up place.
Athletic still have to play leaders North Ferriby, and close rivals South Cave twice.
The match was played in rain, and a blustery wind. As usual Bridlington were up for the derby game, and a hard-fought tussle ensued, however a competent finish from Sam Spivey, who despatched a cross into the corner of the net, put Scarborough a goal ahead at half-time.
The home team’s second goal game following good work from the determined Sam Robson, who followed up his own parried shot with a simple tap-in.
Bridlington’s reply came following a hotly-disputed free-kick awarded when a Scarborough player was adjudged to have handled the ball, but it was too little too late for the visitors as Boro hung on for the three points.
